Hi everyone its Andrea from Andrea Cooley calm I haven't made a video in forever, but it's the weekend after Thanksgiving, and I'm back at my parents house to get made some videos here before, and so I just wanted to check in and say hello and kind of update you all with everything that's been going on since I last made a video almost 6 months ago I updated my blog last week and so if you want to check out my blog it's Andrea Julie calm I will be posting their kind of more in keeping you updated more about what's going on but basically what happened was I am a second year ophthalmology resident at Mayo Clinic I think a lot of you who've been watching these videos know that and at the end of my first year so around May of last year 2016 I decided to apply for fellowship in oculoplastic or ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery is the official term for the fellowship that I'm applying for and when I made that decision back in May right before I started my second year of ophthalmology resident residency I knew that it was going to take a lot of work there was a lot of research that I needed to finish up I needed to really dedicate myself to studying and doing my oculoplastic station, and so I decided to kind of put the blog put YouTube put everything on hold and focus 100 on that application and the application opened in October I submitted everything back in October now it's November and everything is completely done, and so I'm ready to be back online back posting videos and blogs and keeping you updated with the whole process I'm expecting to get interviews I hope in kind of January through March I already have one interview invitation, so that'll be in January I'm very excited and then the match is in April so how it all works is very similar to the match for residency where I will interview at different programs, and then I'll create a ranked list of my top programs and then the programs will rank all the applicants and then a computer system kind of matches you and so in April 2017 I'll find out where I match it a two-year fellowship in oculoplastic most ophthalmology fellowships like glaucoma cornea anterior segment Pediatrics neuro-ophthalmology all of those are just one-year fellowships but retina surgery and oculoplastic SAR both two-year fellowships and so what I'm applying for will be two years after I finish residency and so for those of you asking about the timeline again this is all just in the US, but it's four years of college four years of medical school four years of residency and then two years of fellowship, and then I will finally be done, and I'll be able to get a job and practice as an oculoplastic surgeon and I posted a ton of my blog about what oculoplastic says, and I'll be posting more about why I like it and why I decided to apply for that field for my fellowship and kind of decide to really sub-specialize than that for the rest of my career, but I'm very excited, and I'm happy that I'm back on YouTube and I just...
